Q: Do I need to use the BimmerFix Cooling System Sealant and Conditioner to stop the leak coming from the Front Seal on my BMW Coolant Transfer Pipe (#3)?

Answer:  No, the BimmerFix Stent is what is used to stop the common BMW N62 Weep Hole leak.  The aluminum alloy “Stent” creates an impenetrable, long lasting, repair.  However, the BimmerFix Cooling System Sealant and Conditioner can be added to the Cooling System, if desired, to stop leaks from the Rear Coolant Passage Cover (# 5) (which requires the removal of the transmission to repair), and the Valley Pan Gasket (#1).  The Cooling System Sealer can also be added as a preventative measure and can remain in the Cooling System to help prevent future leaks.

Q: The BimmerFix Coolant Pipe Repair System does not replace the Rear O-ring (#4) on the Coolant Transfer Pipe (#3) . Can the BMW N62 V8 engine develop an external Engine Coolant leak from a faulty Rear O-ring of the Coolant Transfer Pipe?

Answer: No, it is not possible for a bad Rear O-ring to cause an external Engine Coolant leak.  The Rear O-ring  is a pressure neutral O-ring, and does not actually “seal” the Coolant from leaking outside of the Engine Block.   The Rear O-ring is to provide cushioning and stability to the Coolant Transfer Pipe, so that the back side (rear side) of the Coolant Transfer Pipe does not vibrate and rattle around lose inside of the Engine Block.

Q: How much will it cost to install the BimmerFix Stent into my BMW V8 N62 engine?

Answer:  The best way to estimate the cost of installing the BimmerFix Cooling Pipe Repair System is to ask your mechanic the cost of the shop labor and materials to replace the Water Pump (not including the actual cost of the Water Pump itself, unless this is to be replaced at the same time), and then add one or two hours of additional shop labor, to actually install the BimmerFix Stent.   Some Timing Chain Covers may require more sanding and preparation time that others, using the BimmerFix Sanding Rod and Cleaning Rod (which are included with the kit).  That is why we recommend allowing one or two hours of shop labor time for the installation of the actual BimmerFix Stent.

Q: Is the BimmerFix Stent removable once it has been installed into the Timing Chain Cover and Coolant Transfer Pipe?

Answer:  Yes.  If there ever did come a time when the BimmerFix Stent needed to be removed, it is possible to remove the Stent by removing the Water Pump, and then pulling the old Stent out, with a Hook Tool.  BimmerFix can provide this Hook Tool to Customers upon request.   The Stent is held in place with a high quality, high temperature, high oil resistant silicone.  The Stent is NOT permanently bonded or epoxied to the Timing Chain Cover or the Coolant Transfer Pipe.
